A Stylist & Her Tear Sheets

Now I’m assuming that we are all in the same boat here, but do you have stack of magazines and pages you’ve pulled out and kept dating back years? I’d like to think I’m not the only hoarder please tell me I’m right! I try to be good and only save the pages that really inspire me rather than the entire magazine. In magazine and styling world we call them our “tear sheets” little pages of loveliness that we save for a rainy day to spark of an idea. It could be a lovely room, a little collection of objects, a mood board, ~I even do it with fashion mags, anything that’s a great colour combo or has a lovely bit of detail. Not only do I have all my inspiration tears but I also try to keep tears of all the features I’ve done…so I have rather a stack. Before I came away I tried to downsize slightly by digitizing some of my tears so I could bring them with me, but to be honest there is nothing like sitting down with a cuppa and a Bourbon ad flicking through your tears. Mine were in some sort of order but are now sitting in several huge boxes in a garage in Suffolk, on my return I will return them to their former organized glory by doing this…

I found this “oh so simple” and “been meaning to do it again myself” idea over at Just Something I made blog. All you need are a few cardboard files and these glorious labels that Cathe designed. Cathe has set up a free download so we can have no excuses for not all having wonderfully organized tears and finally banishing those unsightly piles of mags that date back to when terracotta walls were a must have!

Oh and I’m loving the yellow and black combo Cathe’s chosen! Very of the moment! Now wouldn’t that be a good job well done? How satisfying to have such well-organized tears?

When I arranged mine {way back when} I categorised by room, but also had folders for occasion, Christmas, Easter/Spring, Entertaining,Weddings {some day it may be of use!}. I also found it handy to have a few according to style , so I had Dark & Moody, Light and Bright, As well as a Colour Combo’s and things to Make and Do, phew I had a lot of files!!

What a great post Marie!! You have given lots of inspiration to start this project – I too have way too many tear sheets in a terribly disorganised state. I had begun sorting them with a file and dividers but I much prefer your idea. Am off to check out the free download now… then to begin sorting 🙂 Enjoy your weekend!

Oh I am pleased I’m not the only one! I can’t really take credit for the idea, I just thought it was so good I had to share it. Let me know how you get on

Yeah I do it too, im not an interiors person, but as an artist I get inspired by anything and everything and hoard so much. Have also recently had a big tidy up though and organised all my ‘tears’ into box files and recycled cardboard magfiles. Beautiful.
