Welcome Home My Love {I’ve Missed You}

It’s true, I’ve spent the past two days feeling a little sorry for myself and couldn’t quite feel inspired enough to post. Nothing of major concern but for the first time in nearly two years Simon returned to the 9-5 yesterday (well 7:30am – 8pm actually!) I was expecting it to be a massive shock to his system, but didn’t anticipate the effect it would have on me. For the past two years we’ve been lucky enough to both work together, freelancing from home (initially in Sydney and now back in the UK) as well as doing his own design work {look at his lovely site here!} Simon has become my assistant on shoots; the driving force behind our soon to be online store and, well my inspiration really! As idyllic as it’s been the reality isn’t always so perfect. Not so much the worry of getting work {touch wood that’s not been an issue} the tricky thing seems to be getting paid for the work you’ve done. So still waiting on payment for jobs I did way back in Feb & March we, or I decided it’s too stressful both being self-employed and so Simon has entered back into the life of a commuter. And I miss him! Despite the fact I’m up to my eye balls in baubles prepping for festive shoots {oh yes it’s that time again in magazine world!} I find myself clock watching waiting for his return and little Dudley has taking to sleeping in the hallway one eye firmly fixed on the front door {for those who don’t know Dudley is a dog, not a small child!}

I’m intrigued to know how you achieve the work/life balance? And if any of you and your partners are both self-employed? Back in the day when we both commuted to London each day we certainly had it all wrong. Despite the fact I’ve been working round the clock for the past two years some how having Simon working by my side it felt like we were striking a better balance, now I can’t help but feel we’ve been thrown off again.

Hmm ..grumble over, I’m sure it will all sort it’s self out  & normal service shall resume!

Oh isn’t this pic cute, it’s a beautiful decal by New York based Shanna Murray.

Friday Fancies

Happy Friday everyone. Is it me or our the weeks flying by quicker and quicker? How are we nearly at the end of July? It’s Simon’s last day in the world of freelance today. After almost two years of working alongside each other Simon starts “a proper job” on Monday, I’m going to feel like my lost my sidekick next week ;( So today we are making the most of a free Friday together and driving to the coast. As I head off to the seaside here are a few things that have caught my eye this week:

1. Love this new range of furniture from ByALEX which is set to launch in September.

2. I’m seeing DIY coloured handle cutlery everywhere at the moment. Love this shot by Stylist Sania Pell.

3. No idea where this pic is from but great kids room me thinks.

4. A painted rug, practical and stylish way to add colour to boring floors via The Little Greene Paint Company.

5. I must have a pieces from Burgundy Applegate’s new Geometry range at Heals.

New Romo Collection

After a few hectic weeks of shooting this week I’m enjoying some office time, working on forthcoming projects from the comfort of my dining room/office.  Putting together new schemes is probably my favourite part of being a stylist, I love nothing more than to burry myself in fabrics samples; paint charts and piles of wallpaper. As Autumn/Winter approaches {feels like it’s already arrived – does it not my fellow Brits?!} lovely little parcels of new season swatches are arriving on my desk.  Fancy a sneak peep? Well my fave so far is this new collection from Romo. Inspired by botanical gardens such as Kew the range mixes fabulous florals with striking geometrics, and the colours are bold and beautiful…

The collection is called Fougere and launches via Romo retailers in September.

Lark House {Cute Getaway}

Morning my friends. Here’s a little treat for you in the form of a very cute holiday home indeed. It’s owned by Allison who runs online store and cute shop Lark. I came across Lark when I was styling in Sydney. The store and indeed the cottage are based in Daylesford a beautiful country town outside of Melbourne {You may remember me blogging about it Dayelsford and about the beautiful cottage we stayed in here} Daylesford is vintage heaven, with antique and bric-a-brac stores galore and well worth a road trip if you’re ever in and around Melbourne. Next time I go back I’m going to split my time between The White House and here..{although if I did that I may, in fact, never ever leave!}

Whoops spot the obvious typo! , I created this late last night and now can’t find the original photoshop file to amend x

{Hello} Ray Stitch

A couple of days ago I received a “follow” on Twitter  from Ray Stitch. Intrigued as I am by all new Twitter followers I hopped on over to check out their site, and what a treat. Ray Stitch is  an online contemporary haberdashery store and soon to be cafe/meeting place / crafting school. I can’t wait for them to open their doors in London’s N1 in September this year. For now, here’s a taster…

Whole Lot Of Lovely

Hello my friends, I hope you’re weekend was filled with fun? After a hectic week of shooting last week I’m looking forward to being back in my office today. Writing copy; prepping for a meeting mid-week and finally getting round to working on Shop At Number 57 stuff. I received an email from a friend last week entitled “saw this and thought of you” when I clicked on the link I found this great letterpress print. It’s by Bespoke Press who I used to regularly use when I was in Sydney, love their new print…
